Privacy and cookies:
We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users and this Privacy and Cookies Policy is designed to help you understand how we and our sub-contractors collect, store and use the personal information you share when using the Site and its directly associated domains.
By using or accessing the Site, you are accepting the practices described in this Policy.
The information we collect:
When you visit the Site you provide us with up to three different types of information: personal information you knowingly choose to disclose that is collected by us, personal information that you (knowingly or unknowingly) share with the Site, and Site use information collected by us as you interact with the Site.
In addition, we store certain information from your browser using "cookies". A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user´s computer tied to information about the user. We use "session ID" cookies to confirm that registered users are logged in. These cookies terminate once the user closes the browser. By default, we use a "persistent" cookie that stores your Log In Details to make it easier for you to log in when you come back to the Site. You can remove or block all or just third party cookies using the settings in your browser if you want to disable this convenience feature. Blocking cookies will, however, have a negative effect upon the usability of the Site.
Our payment services providers may also send you cookies.
When you register with us, you may provide us with certain personal information, such as your name, email address, gender, date of birth, country, your public profile information and any other personal or preference information that you provide to us.
When you interact with the Site, you may add people to your contact list, form or join Groups and Businesses, invite friends, add written, photo or video User Content and make comments, engage in discussions and transmit and share information through various channels. We collect this information so that we can provide you the service and offer personalised features. We retain this information so that, for instance, you can return to see which Groups or Businesses you are in, to view messages you have posted or easily see your contact list. When you update information, we usually keep a back-up copy of the prior version for a reasonable period of time to enable reversion to the prior version of that information.
You understand and acknowledge that, even after removal, copies of your User Content may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other users have copied or stored it.
For everyone´s safety, we reserve the right to review, either manually or using systemic or automated means, all User Content. This applies to all Groups, whatever their status, whether open, closed or hidden.
If you use our "Invite a friend" or "Add new contacts" facilities to tell a friend or contact about the Site, we will ask you for information needed to send the invitation. We will send your friend or contact an email in your name inviting him or her to visit the Site and, where relevant, to be a contact of yours. We store this information to send invitations, to register a contact connection if your invitation is accepted, to allow you to see invitations you have sent and to track whether the invitations have been accepted. Your friend or contact may contact us to request that we remove this information from our database.
We may also collect information about you from other users of the Site through the operation of the service.
Information which you provide may be transferred to countries (including the United States) which do not have data protection laws equivalent to those in force in the European Economic Area. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that in such circumstances your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Policy.
In addition, personal information that you post on the Site will be published on the internet and may be available, via the internet and subject to the relevant privacy settings, around the world.
Use of information obtained by us
When you register with us, you create your own profile. Your name, photo and about me information will be displayed to any registered user of the Site.
We may use your Log In Details to authenticate you on the Site and for generating aggregated statistics about users, traffic patterns etc of the Site and which we might provide to third parties in an anonymous form.
We may use your name and email address to:
• ask you if you are willing to take part in polls on specific subjects which we think may be of interest to you
• send you notifications on matters which we think may be of interest to you. (This may include limited marketing messages.)
• administer your Site account and otherwise in connection with any service for which you have provided your information, including any email alerts, transactions with us and polls, competitions and promotions that you take part in
• send you newsletters or notifications regarding services offered by us that we think you may find valuable or of interest
• send you service-related announcements from time to time through the general operation of the service. For instance, if someone invites you to be their friend or requests you to be a contact, or someone posts a message or leaves a message in a group you are in, you may receive an email alerting you to that fact
• send you notifications you have specifically requested
• respond to your enquiries
• deal with complaints made by you or about you or any of your User Content.
When you use the Contact us function of the Site, we may use your name and email address to correspond with you.
We may disclose personal information about you to any of our employees, officers, agents, suppliers or subcontractors insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy.
Sharing your information with third parties
We share your information with third parties only in limited circumstances where we believe such sharing is 1) reasonably necessary to operate the Site (aspects of which may be sub-contracted), 2) legally required or 3) permitted by you.
When you use the Site, certain information you post or share with third parties (e.g. the other members of a Group you are in), such as messages, may be shared with other users of the Site in accordance with the privacy settings you select. All such sharing of information is done at your own risk.
We may provide third parties with statistical information about our users, but this information will not identify you as an individual to third parties. However, in certain cases information may be shared with Sponsore and Advertisers. Apart from that, your personal information will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes, except with your specific consent.
We may offer products or services (for example, travel or employment services ) jointly with other companies on the Site. It will be made clear on the Site whenever another company is involved in any product or service provided on the Site, and we may share customer information with that company in connection with your use of that product or service.
In addition, we may disclose information about you:
• (a) to the extent that we are required to do so by law;
• (b) in connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings;
• (c) in order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights or to limit any legal exposure; and
In the event that we (or a relevant part of us) is acquired by or merges with somebody else, your personal information may also be passed to the purchasing/merging entity amongst the transferred business assets. This will enable your relationship to continue with our new entity despite the change of ownership. Your personal information may also be passed (on a confidential basis) to others with whom we might be negotiating such a sale/merger as part of the verification exercise carried out on us by the third party.
Except as provided in this Policy, we will not provide your personal information to third parties.
The Site may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site that they should read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This Policy applies solely to information collected by us.
Changing or removing information
Except as stated below, registered users may modify or delete any of their User Content at any time by logging into their account. Information will be updated as soon as practicable thereafter. Removed information may persist in back-up copies for a reasonable period of time but will not be generally available to users of the Site.
We take appropriate precautions to protect our users´ information. Your account information is located on a secure server behind a firewall.
We will keep your information for a reasonable time (to the extent permitted by the Data Protection Act) to enable us to use it for the purposes described in this Policy.
Data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of any data sent over the internet.
